In this busy world, we are all doing our best to be good parents, good spouses, good employees, good friends. It’s not always easy to juggle all those responsibilities AND try to have a little time for ourselves at the end of the day. (I’m laughing even as I write this because “me” time is such a hilarious concept to me!) But, recently, I realized that I could be doing better for the planet. I started looking around at all the waste in my life and it just felt wrong. It felt silly. Too many toys, too many computers, too many pieces of junk mail coming into the house. So, I just slowly started making some new decisions. I got myself off all those mailing lists for catalogs that I will never order from. I started recycling EVERYTHING I could and re-using containers instead of just trashing them. I bought re-usable shopping bags for the grocery store. I started taking advantage of the natural daylight and turning off lights. I never realized how bright my house was during the day, without a single light. Oh, and I saved a ton on my electricity bill, too.
Having children has really changed my perspective on so many things. I want to do my part to keep the planet a little cleaner and a little greener for my kids and grand kids. I hope to share simple ways to waste less and recycle and re-use more. And, I’d love to hear what things you do to live a little greener. There is strength in numbers so, if we all do a little, we can see big changes!
